The City of Atlanta has teamed up with Partners for Home (PFH), Atlantica Properties, and The Beck Group, a design and construction firm, to convert shipping containers into 40 affordable housing units in a project that could soon be a model for cities brimming with homeless and migrant families. Come tour the newly completed project in Downtown Atlanta to see this new potential model for confronting the challenge of providing housing solutions to Atlanta’s vulnerable populations.

What makes this project different than others is not only the rapid five-month design and construction timeline, but also how it was funded, created, and how it will be managed. The complex cost the City roughly $5 million and was paid for, in part, by the city’s housing trust fund and allocations from Invest Atlanta. Over half of the shipping containers are “recycled” – all built as Covid ICU units during the pandemic and donated to PFH by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA).

While touring the project, attendees will hear directly from project leaders on the unique challenges and opportunities this presents for future affordable housing options in the metro area and beyond. Click here to read more about the project.
