Volunteers & Training
ULI volunteers are an essential component of UrbanPlan. A volunteer’s commitment is as serious as one to a ULI Advisory Services Panel. Volunteers must be nominated by a current ULI member and UrbanPlan volunteer.
Volunteers make a significant impact in the classroom with minimal demands on their schedule. After attending the required one-day UrbanPlan training session offered throughout the year, volunteers may spend as little as one hour per semester in the classroom.
Volunteers in the Classroom
Your Students: High school seniors in economics and government classes. University graduate students focusing on land use: city and regional planning, MBA/real estate, architecture, and law.
The Volunteers
Facilitator: Facilitators engage in Socratic interaction twice with the student teams over the course of the 15 class hour project and prior to the presentations. This process is transformative to the students’ insights and capacities.
City Council: The “City Council” hears the student proposals, challenges them as would a City Council, and awards the development contract to the winning “developer.”
